24 Oct Blog Logo
Happy almost Halloween!
I can’t believe the end of October is also near! As for my videos for the next two months, they will be less and less because of the busy holidays, and well, sometimes a gal needs a break. But before the end of the year, I promise some more awesome videos, and blog posts to come!
Hardly ever going out on Halloween, I never really dress up anymore. Yet, if I had to use creativity for a last minute idea, why not use makeup items I already have to create it?
It’s less money spent, but the same dress up effect can be achieved. With this version of a Glam Cleopatra look, you can pull together your last minute Halloween idea, and wear it however you please!
I hope you all enjoy this video, and have a safe and Happy Halloween!

How To: Weekly Protein Shake Prep

7 Oct IMG_0268

Hey there!

Every week on my meal prep days (usually between Saturday and Sunday), I also prepare my weekly protein shakes. Even if you aren’t into working out much, choosing a protein powder to indulge in during the middle of the day, could help boost your mental focus, while keeping you full, avoiding any mid-day binges. I like to pack these shakes with me, and have them towards late afternoon to keep me going strong.

To get enough protein in your day, you want to first choose a good protein powder. My preference is Purely Inspired Organic Protein, which is perfect for anyone that leads a vegan lifestyle as well. I personally am not vegan, but since this protein is plant based, I’m able to receive all of the nutrients I wouldn’t have on a daily basis. If you’d like a full review on this protein powder, visit my past post on it.

You’ll also want to invest in at least 5-7 travel-friendly shaker bottles. I’ve invested in a few more blender bottles myself, and they make all the difference. You want to be able to place them inside your lunchbox, and not worry if they spill all over the place. A secure lid is always a must when you decide to shake up your mixture before you drink it as well. So make sure you have enough blender bottles for the week, and then you’ll be ready to create your blend!

Next, you’ll want to choose some fruits or veggies to blend inside of a blender, and measure them to last throughout the week. In this picture, I chose to cut up a dragon fruit along with a banana in order to get some “meat” in my shakes. I portioned them into five groups, so I could place them in my 5 shakes for the week. The next step is optional, but I’ve been doing it since I realized it makes my shakes taste so yummy!

I then like to put some fruits that I know produce an abundant of juice, inside my juicer. Sometimes I switch it up between mangos, tangerines, apples, and even adding some greens such as spinach into the mix. I also divide the juice up from a cup, into those 5 shaker bottles.

The rest of the liquid is pure water, which dilutes any harsh sugary tastes. This not only provides you with extra nutrients, but you’ll also have a delicious tasting protein shake in the end. Not all protein powders taste great, and this is a good way of masking that taste.

After you’ve mixed your blended fruits, juice, and protein powder together, you’re all set to pack your shakes and get ready for your week ahead! I hope you’ve found this helpful, and are able to incorporate more healthy snacks like these into your routine. Your body will be happy!

Top 3 Favorite 2016 Drugstore Mascaras

3 Oct Blog Logo

Hey everyone!

In the next few months starting with this post, you’ll see a lot of posts pertaining to what products I’ve enjoyed during the year of 2016. Today’s post is all about my favorite drugstores mascaras that I know I will be using well into 2017. They each have unique qualities about them, and I rate them from three to one as far as my scale goes in this video.

I explain what I like, and dislike about each mascara, and why I feel they’ve made it into my top three of this year. If you guys want to keep up with my YouTube channel, all you have to do is subscribe!

Thanks so much for watching, and I hope you’ve all found your favorite mascaras of this year as well!

September Monthly Favorites

30 Sep FullSizeRender

Hey there!

My birthday has come and gone, and I’m officially a year older. September is always a weird month for me, because I have to remind myself I have to stop telling people a number I’ve gotten so used to saying for a whole year now. Yet, where would I be without my monthly favorites? I’m always indulging in the items I own, and find my little happy place when I start using them routinely. These next items are no exception to that.

A Thousand Wishes is a very popular fragrance at Bath & Body Works, but I’ve since had to stop purchasing any lotions from there due to skin allergies (go figure). I was happy to learn this scent came in a candle. It’s described as a mixture of champagne, peonies & almonds.

I can’t really say for sure that’s what it smells like, but I do know it has a very light musky scent to it, which is perfect for anyone who loves subtly but doesn’t want a scent to be faded away in the background at the same time. Whether you like strong scents, or light scents, I feel everyone would love this candle, and I highly recommend it!

I swatched both the Matt Kumar and Swag lippies and eye shadows in my July Ipsy Glam Bag review of this year. Since trying them out, I’ve become a huge fan of them. TheBalm Cosmetics and BareMinerals are both high quality cosmetics lines, and the shade selection I own couldn’t have been more tailored to my likes! TheBalm Cosmetics Matt Kumar eye shadow is rich and buttery, and packs a punch, so I always have to be cautious when dabbing my brush into it.

It’s so easy to get carried away with that shade. While the new Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolors by BareMinerals never fully dry into a true matte, they are quite comfortable on the lips. Swag is an everyday shade you can wear no matter the occasion, and it also leaves your lips feeling hydrated after use!

I ran out of my Sephora Water-proof Eye Makeup Remover, so I was able to truly make use of my Klorane Floral Water Make-up Remover, and I absolutely love it! I usually use it just to remove excess eye makeup that my cleanser, and Garnier Micellar water didn’t fully pick up, and it’s been working out wonderfully.

I’m also obsessed with everything L’Oreal this month, so excuse these next brand raves. I’m loving the new Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation, and find myself picking it up more often than my Infallible Pro-Matte. If you haven’t yet seen my video comparing both foundations, see it now here!

You’ll be seeing me talk about these mascaras for the next few months, because they have quickly climbed to my top favorites list. The L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara Primer along with the Voluminous Mascara are two drugstore duos you never want to underestimate.

I didn’t think much of them once I received them in my last Influenster Voxbox, but once I tried them out as instructed, I fell in love. The primer sets the lashes into place, and placing the mascara on top, creates a dramatic effect without having to put on false lashes. Who doesn’t want to save money on lashes? Pick these two up!

Included in my Voxbox, was an eye shadow form the L’Oreal Colour Riche line, in Paris Beach. If you’re looking for a matte, creamy, and pigmented lid base color, this is another one you don’t want to bypass at the drugstore. This shade is unbelievable for being a low-end product.

I even compared it to Urban Decay eye shadows, and was stunned to find this one was more pigmented than some of the UD lighter shades. I have been using this shade as base color ever since purchasing. It’s a beautiful, true cream white shade.

What are some of your September favorites? Thanks for taking the time to read this post, and I’ll see you back here on The Gift of Gab, for my October favorites coming up next month!

Skincare Products for Sensitive Skin

23 Sep IMG_9743

Hey there!

As you guys might have seen, I do have a video on my channel of my skincare routine. Yet there are so many other products I use on a daily basis, that cater to sensitive skin like mine. If you also suffer from sensitive skin, this post might save you time during your trial and error phase of products.

Starting with bath products, I’ve had the best experience using the original Dial Soap Bars for my entire life. I find that the Dial body wash breaks me out, whereas the scentless soap bar has never failed me. Since some body washes tend to not contain anti-bacterial qualities, I always use the soap bar first, and then grab my Aveeno body wash. I usually interchange between the Skin Relief one and the original one. They both work great on me, and Aveeno is a wonderful brand for those who have sensitive skin like myself.

After my showers, I’ll grab my preferred body lotion by Eucerin, which is probably the only body lotion that has worked on my skin for a long time. I’ve tried many brand name lotions such as Bath & Body Works, Gold Bond, and others that have only left my body itching and full of new rashes after application. I swear by the Eucerin Skin Calming Cream, because it actually works.

To prep my face for my moisturizer, I use Thayer’s Scentless Aloe-Vera Formula Toner, which is extremely gentle on the skin. I ordered mine on drugstore.com after I read several reviews on it. I originally used an alcohol based toner, which isn’t necessarily bad for you, but I was tired of my face burning all of the time. With the Thayer’s Toner, you’ll feel like you’re applying chemical-free water on your face, with no harsh skin reactions to show for it.

Finally, some awesome facial cleansers that I’ve interchanged between for some time now, are the Eucerin Gentle Hydrating Cleanser, and Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. The Soy Face Cleanser has a hint of cucumber scent to it, and feels like a milky lotion once you apply it. It doesn’t foam up, but it leaves your skin feeling clean and smooth after a wash. My go-to and favorite cleanser though, is the Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. It feels wonderful on the skin, and is scentless.

Makeup from the day instantly melts off, and your face is left feeling squeaky clean. If you’re willing to splurge a little bit on a cleanser, then you can grab the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser at Sephora. Yet if you want to save a few pennies, and want the same results (if not better), then picking up the Eucerin Gentle Hydrating Cleanser at your local drugstore will work too!

If you guys have any sensitive skin product suggestions as well, just comment below with them. I’m always up for testing out new products that will only leave my skin feeling healthy and taken care of, minus the blemishes.

I hope you’ve found this post helpful, and thanks for stopping by!

Favorite Instagram Accounts I Follow

19 Sep Blog Logo

Hey guys!

In addition to The Gift of Gab, I also have an IG account that’s dedicated to my lifestyle. At times you’ll find me promoting my blog posts, YouTube videos, and products that I’m loving at the moment. If you don’t follow my Instagram, be sure to at @classysassg.

I have wonderful followers, but I’m also happy to state I follow accounts that serve different purposes, but I feel have the best content out there. It’s not often I grow to love an IG account, so you’ll discover the ones I discuss in this post, are a few that are worth the follow.

@thingsbitchessay is a parody account, dedicated to all memes meant to empower or expose the “HBIC”. A lot of the time, I can relate to this account’s posts, and I know a lot of girls would. It’s all in good fun, and the best part? It never portrays a woman as “weak” or a “damsel”. I often find that IG accounts dedicated to memes can be sexist in that it only shows the “man’s side” of things. Who doesn’t love an account like @thingsbitchessay that basically screams “I am woman, hear me roar.”

@tipsyontravel is an IG account based on blogger Leanne’s life. She records all of her travel adventures through stunning visual photography, along with detailed descriptions. I only follow travel and lifestyle IG accounts when their content is high quality, because who doesn’t get drawn in by sight? Also, photo’s that make you feel you are there in the moment, are the ones that transcend meaning most to me.

@olivia.lines will take you into her world, through her eyes. The contrast and saturation of her photographs, really make for a unique IG quality that not many accounts strive for because they don’t know that’s exactly what their viewers want to see. To be able to view a day in the life, whether it’s traveling to a foreign country, sitting and having your meal, or taking a photograph of street lights, this IG account’s authenticity makes it extremely fascinating!

@wineandfoodblog IG account is based off of the blog, Wine, Food and Friends, which is based around different recipes, that are categorized by each meal course. The IG account and blog owner, Lindsay, captures the essence of her recipes in her IG photographs, and usually focus on one item per photo. I find this technique appeals most to me because simplicity in staging is often all you need to reel your audience in for more.

@themiamimenu is an IG account dedicated to photographs of delicious foods, whether it’s homemade or from a restaurant in the Miami area. I live in South Florida, so whenever I see accounts dedicated to promoting foods in the area, I’m all for the follow. I also love to drool over amazing food photographs, especially if they are fattening just to get my visual fix. Then I pinch myself, and back on my diet I am again. No harm done, but I also get an idea of what I can indulge in come my cheat meal night.

@oliviathevegan is dedicated to veganism and the foods that the account owner, Olivia, eats on a daily basis. Her vegan bowl pictures always have me dreaming about eating them. I’m personally not a vegan, but I’m always on the hunt for new healthy recipes to incorporate into my diet, and she has the best ideas for just that! She makes veganism look easy, flawless and most importantly – delicious.

@beautybykat____ showcases her work of looks created on her YouTube makeup channel, along with product breakdowns of these looks on her IG account. I love how creative Kat gets, and is always coming up with amazing cut-crease eye makeup looks. She’s a natural artist, and her IG account expresses that point across to her audience. Plus, she’s a total sweetheart!

@christinaschiccorner is a beauty blogger who like me, promotes her blog posts often on her IG account. Christina has the best posts based all around beauty and lifestyle. From hair, to makeup, to skincare, she’s got it down to a science. She takes awesome photographs, and has a nice clean theme for her IG account. Plus, she’s on top of her posting game. Consistency is something I admire, because it reminds me so much of my philosophy when it comes to blogging.

@maquillageitup IG can help you to discover new beauty products! She does IG reviews, and goes in-depth on her descriptions. Not to mention, the makeup meme’s she makes are hilarious. Demo videos are also available on her account, which makes it a convenient way to preview the hottest makeup available on today’s market, before making that purchase!

@inspire_me_home_decor Interior Design Content Creator, Farah Merhi, outdid herself with this IG account. I’m obsessed with this one, because it inspires the interior designer in you. You’ll want to switch things around in your home, or day dream about a future décor style in the future for it. This IG account features home decors from many different other interior design accounts, which helps other decorators gain exposure. It’s definitely an account you’ll be scrolling through for over 30 minutes, and wonder where the time has gone.

@ayeshacurry is the famous GSW Steph Curry’s wife, but she doesn’t stop there. She engages in blogging, vlogging, and even has a cookbook out. Ayesha even has a new home food delivery service called Gather, where ingredients are sent to your door each week, and you can create meals according to her own recipes for your family. She’s got a lot of things going on, and her IG account shows that. She posts about everything lifestyle, and she’s got herself together, which I’ve always admired.

@oliviapearson is on the show WAGS on the E Channel, but long before she was a reality star, she was just “IG famous”. I’ll admit, this is one of my guilty pleasure follows, but the good thing about Liv, is that she runs a blog and YouTube channel with her cousin Natalie. They both create content catered to high-end products, and have great video and photography skills. Not sure how much of the content on Liv’s IG is her own, but it’s an entertaining account to follow, none the less.

What are some of your favorite Instagram accounts to follow? Check these out when you have the time, and enjoy your time scrolling!

Thanks for reading, and hope you’re all having a wonderful week!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Self-Made Palette Makeup Tutorial

16 Sep IMG_0300
Hey guys!
You might be asking yourselves, why is she making a video about a sold out palette? Turns out, about two months ago, ULTA exclusively brought back to life this limited edition palette from the fall of 2015, for around two weeks or so. The Self-Made palette is no longer on the market, so I made sure to grab a chance at purchasing this one.
I decided not to get the new Modern Renaissance Palette, because I already have so many shades similar to that one. So here’s a look I created using just the Self-Made Palette shadows!
I hope you enjoy this makeup tutorial, and if you subscribe to my channel, you’ll see many more looks coming up in the future!

Honey Mustard Chicken Recipe

12 Sep Honey Mustard Chicken Logo

Hey there!

Lately I’ve been cooking this recipe during my meal prep routine week. I haven’t posted one of these healthy recipes in a while, so I figured I’d give you all a yummy treat!

Cooking chicken in a crock pot can save you time, all while being able to stomach plain chicken breast, due to an Asian cuisine inspired sauce that I create. I freeze these meals once I finish cooking them, unless I plan on eating them that very same day, so please keep that in mind.

What You’ll Need

  • Crock pot
  • Defrosted chicken breast (however many you want)
  • Chicken broth
  • Seasoned salt
  • Dijon mustard
  • Honey
  • Sesame oil (Optional)
  • Hoisin sauce
  • Soy sauce (Optional)

First, you’re going to want to create your sauce. Take a small bowl and fill it up half with Dijon mustard, and the other half with honey. Then you add a spoonful of hoisin sauce, and just a capful of soy sauce, and sesame sauce. Take your spoon, and mix well.

Once your mixture has been created, you can fill the crock pot with some chicken broth, but make sure it isn’t too much. You can always go back once the chicken has been placed inside of it, and measure that way. I like to do it beforehand, because after I place the chicken (salted lightly), into the crock pot with the chicken broth already in, I also pour my sauce all over on top of the chicken. I mix slightly, so that the flavors are nice and spread out evenly on the chicken.

Unlike myself, you’re going to want to use a crock pot with a timer. If you’re home and have no timer on yours, then we’re on the same boat. If you don’t want the chicken to fall apart easily, then I suggest putting it on HIGH for just two hours.

I set my own timer at around 4.5 hours on HIGH, only because I want my chicken to shred easily. Shredded chicken is so much more delicious left over that one intact, because the juices stay on each strand much easier once frozen.

After time is up, you’re then able to enjoy your deliciously flavored chicken. Check out this healthy combination I created, with some sweet potato fries as a side. This recipe is extremely simple, but can benefit both the same day cooker, along with the week-long meal prepper.

Have any of you guys found tricks to make your chicken taste better, longer? I hope you’ve enjoyed this recipe post!

My Everyday Makeup Routine

9 Sep Blog Logo
Hey everyone!
Although I love filming fun and colorful makeup routines that take much time and effort, I also don’t do these looks every day of the week. I have certain products I gravitate to on a daily basis. Whether I am going out during the day time, or want to have a fresh face without neglecting my concealer at least, I have a signature look I like to recreate.
Here’s a tutorial on how I achieve my everyday look, along with information on the products I use. Many of these items are affordable, and easy to find in stores. I’ve also talked about a few in my Holy Grail Product blog post. So make sure you check the description box in the video, and don’t forget to subscribe!
Thank you for watching!

Miami Spice Review: La Mar

5 Sep IMG_0749

Hey everyone!

Living in South Florida has many perks, but it can get pricey when dining out in the city. Luckily, I was able to experience a Miami Spice 3 course meal priced at just $23 per person, at La Mar at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Downtown Miami. Miami Spice is a once a year dining experience, in which top restaurants in Miami participate in from August 1st – September 30th.

It’s around this time of the year, that tourists (and locals like myself), take advantage of ordering from a curated discounted menu at these restaurants. The Mandarin is a very popular hotel down here, and being able to enjoy this lovely view, was also a real treat for me!

La Mar is a Peruvian cuisine restaurant, and is ran by the famous chef, Gaston Acurio. I grew up eating Peruvian food all of my life, so anywhere I go to eat it, I always judge a little bit harder. My family members are able to cook the most exquisite Peruvian cuisine right from their homes, so that’s where my biases kick in.

Taking a look at the Miami Spice menu at La Mar, it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to enjoy not one, but three appetizers brought out to you automatically, along with a main course, dessert, and the choice of a bottle of wine. My only complaint on the beverage selection, was that you weren’t allowed to order just one glass of wine. That would be a bummer for someone dining out for a quick lunch, but not so much so for a couple or group of people.

The appetizers included small bites of a causa salad, cebiche chifa, and chicken anticucho in separate bowls. The causa salad consisted of sunchokes, crushed beets and asparagus, topped with a bit of avocado and huancaina sauce. Causa can be eaten warm or cold, and this causa was warm. I thought it was just right, and the flavors were a nice cleanser between the other two appetizers, which packed a punch in taste.

The cebiche chifa included a mixture of ginger-sesame sauce along with a soft piece of salmon, wonton strips and leche de tigre (lime juice) with cilantro to top it off. This was by far my favorite appetizer that I got to try. I was left intrigued with mystery, as to how the chefs cooked the salmon, where it literally melted in your mouth, and felt like jelly at the same time. It was absolutely delicious, and the citrus sauces brought out the flavors so much more! The appetizer I felt was just okay in my book, was the chicken anticucho.

Containing chicken thigh, confit potatoes, choclo (giant corn), and ocopa sauce, I felt the chicken was a bit on the burnt side. I think this was meant to add diversity to the flavors, but I just didn’t see the point of it to be honest. It felt like the “odd man out”. If it was cooked to a more medium level, then I probably wouldn’t have noticed how it didn’t fit in for me.

With not having ordered a $50 bottle of wine, I decided to have a non-Miami Spice drink, which was the Pisco Sour for $15. Pisco Sour is Peru’s national drink, and the one at La Mar consisted of a blend of barsol quebranta pisco, lime, egg white, and angostura bitters. I thought the drink was amazing. Not many restaurants make their pisco “easy to swallow”, as most are made to be bitter tasting. If you like a lighter tasting cocktail, that easily packs a punch at the end of one glass, this is the drink to order at La Mar. The fact that one glass is $15 was kind of lame, but it also left me not needing to order another one at the same time.

For the main course, you’re only allowed to choose one, and I chose the carapulcra. Carapulcra is technically a dry potato stew, with a side of white rice, red beans, and pork belly made to a crisp. This was such an amazing meal, and I feel that if you like the stew type of dishes, picking the carapulcra (anywhere you go) is your safest bet. I do want to comment, that the crispy pork belly was crispy on the outside, but once you tore into it, was completely soft on the inside.

This is something you find rarely with hispanic dishes, as pork chunks are usually crispy from the inside and out. I thought the way it was cooked, was very impressive. My only critique was that it could have used a little more salt. Nothing major, and none the less I would order this dish again, and again!

To top the experience off, I chose to eat the Peruvian dark chocolate cake. This savory pastry bite was made of lucuma mousse and orange caramel. It was so yummy, and for the first time I realized how well citrus fruits such as orange or tangerines, go well with dark chocolate. It truly brings out the flavors of each combination, and every bite was like heaven in your mouth.

All in all, this Miami Spice dining experience at La Mar was a success! If I had to rate everything from 1-5, I’d give it a good 4.8. I was impressed by the curated cuisines, but not impressed with the lack of deals on the drinks.

I’m happy I was able to go, and if you’re ever at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Miami, this is one restaurant you do not want to pass up! Until next time, have a great week!
