What’s in my makeup bag? – Summer 2015 Travel Edition

10 Jul

Happy Friday guys!

I’m off to my little vacation get away and I will be doing a blog post soon upon my return! Before leaving, I had to create a check list of all the things I’ll need, and makeup was no exception. Check out the items I selected to take with me in my makeup bag!

The place I’m going to is extremely humid, and with record breaking heat temperatures this year, I had to make sure to also stay protected by the UV rays. These is all warm climate friendly items, while being compact enough to allow me to take just enough product with me along the way, without all of the clutter.

First, let’s start off with the necessary-can’t-live-without products. If you’re traveling to a warm place for a vacation, you’re going to want to pack a small blending sponge because foundation brushes tend to be bulky (mine is a dupe that works just as good as real techniques & beauty blender original by Studio Basics). Make sure to bring a primer to hold everything together, preferably in a compact size too. I was lucky to be able to take my sample size from an Ipsy Glam bag I received. You’ll never know when those little suckers come in handy, like now.

A BB cream or foundation in tube works best for travel, as I find it’s less messy and more accessible. As far as concealer, you’re going to want that in a non-mess tube too. You can never go wrong with Instant Age Rewind by Maybelline, I guarantee you. To set the look, take a matte powder of your preference and a small powder brush to finish everything off. I love e.l.f. brushes and Rimmel London products because they are absolutely affordable and travel friendly. You’ll be just fine if you bring these with, but if you’re like me, you need a bit more product to set even the most casual look.

Since I am going to a tropical place, I love a dewy, summery look for the day time as well as night time when it’s time to sight see. I took my Mega Glo powder container that includes a two highlights and two blushes. To apply the blushes and highlights, take a small duo fibre brush, like this e.l.f. Small Stipple Brush, and apply the product. This brush is my holy grail, and it perfect for traveling. It can even blend foundation very well.

Also by e.l.f., I grabbed an SPF lip gloss in a sheer nude color with some metallic hints to it. I just love the fact that you can wear a lip gloss with SPF and kill two birds with one stone by staying protected and having a lip color on! I also wanted to take a non-SPF clear gloss to keep the lips hydrated, and this is just a minty gloss I got from a Shop Miss A haul I did. You can’t forget a bronzer when you go to a tropical place, so I brought a nice on from Sephora I bought a few years back, which I use constantly!

When going for a night time look especially, you’ll want to cater to your eye look the most. I brought two Eco Tools eye brushes that came in a set from ULTA. The fact that they are duo ended make them super convenient. As far as eye shadows, you can take small palettes like the Cover girl quad and Estee Lauder disc I took with me. Anything drug store or small will work better for travel, and will prevent you from breaking a nice big palette of beautiful colors you just didn’t want to ruin. A lot of things can happen on vacation guys! I grabbed my trestique shadow crayon sample from my Ipsy Glam bag, a sample Sephora mascara, and my favorite liquid sponge tip eyeliner from NYC to pull the eye look together.

As far as optional items you can take goes, you can bring an extra highlighter for the face if you want an even more glammed up look as well as a flat foundation brush if you’re not comfortable with a beauty blender yet, or like to blend the concealer with a brush. If you’re a girl who must have a little contouring that bronzer can’t do, NYX’s wonder stick is really a travel wonder.

There is also adding another hint of blush with cream, so if you need to, just take a stick blush! I didn’t include any brow powder because I usually don’t do much to my brows when I travel, and when I do, I add some brown matte powder from one of my palettes and throw on some brow gel. Here’s a travel-friendly simple on-the-go look I created with some of the products  I chose. Finally you can grab whatever sample perfume you have, and enjoy!

So that’s it from my makeup travel bag for this summer, I hope you liked it and got some of your own ideas for your next travel bag! Thanks so much for reading, and enjoy your weekend!
